He revealed Everton midfielder Tom Davies inspired Ian's purple and black shellsuit in episode three of The Responder.
Philip said: "One of the biggest inspirations for Ian's costume was this picture of @1tomdavies. I love his eclectic mix of styles.
"It was a pleasure collaborating with the amazing costume team and bringing Ian's style to life.
"A big thank you to them for being just brilliant and also sourcing the most amazing (and incredibly comfortable) shellsuits!"
Davies is known for his retro and quirky outfits off the pitch and even hit the headlines with fellow Everton player Dominic Calvert-Lewin for their stylish outfits as they attended the 2020 Michael Kors show at New York Fashion Week.
The Responder stars Martin Freeman as Chris Carson, a morally compromised urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool.
Writer Tony Schumacher told the ECHO he left the police in 2006 after having a nervous breakdown, before experiencing a period of homelessness.
The 55-year-old had always dreamed of becoming a TV writer as a child, but was unsure how to make this a reality.
He said his life changed following a phone-call with the legendary Jimmy McGovern, who offered to mentor him as part of the ScreenSkills scheme.
