The third and final episode of BBC's The Control Room aired on Tuesday night and viewers were not happy with the tense ending to Gabe and Sam's story.
Poor Gabe has been fighting with drug dealers, police officers and his own guilty conscience as he tries to do what is best for his old flame Sam - all the while embroiling himself further into bad business.
However, a shocking twist sends shockwaves through the Glaswegian call handler, as his supervisor Leigh reveals that Sam had been scamming him all along - there was never a dead body in that van.

Sam had arranged it so that it was Gabe who was on the other end of the line when she'd called the control room and admitted to murder. Sam had gone to the effort of calling up multiple times from different numbers until she reached Gabe.
But why? Well, it turns out Gabe's colleague Anthony (Daniel Portman) is her boyfriend and the two have been working Gabe from the beginning. They made him believe that he had participated in a murder cover-up in order to manipulate him into doing Anthony's illegal bidding, selling sensitive information from the control room which included names, addresses and other details from the calls taken.

So, overall, Gabe has been taken for a mug over the course of the series, running from pillar to post for a long-lost love and a work buddy - who, all the while, were working against him.
Fans, while they were shocked by this news, weren't too impressed with the way the show had panned out. One Twitter user wrote: "BBC Control Room . To be polite to the BBC I decided to watch the last episode of this so called drama . Sorry , my opinion has not changed in fact it’s got worse . I have never watched such drivel as this absolute rubbish . Who wrote it ? Who at the BBC commissioned it !"
Another said: "The Control Room, what a load of mind numbing horse s***, the BBC gave us the likes of Line Of Duty and Doctor Foster and now this."
And a third wrote: "@digitalspy Control room BBC 1 an absolute waste of time…."
More comments read: "@BBC The Control Room was the most preposterous pile of s*** I’ve seen in years. Dreadful."
And further tweets wrote: "I don’t often give up on a big TV drama but BBC’s Control Room is pretty dire stuff. Watched 1& a bit episodes then gave up the will to live."
Finally, one went against the grain and concluded: "Big fan of @bbc The Control Room, mostly because Iain de Caestecker is so lovely."
The Control Room is a BBC One crime drama, starring Iain De Caestecker and Joanna Vanderham. The full series is available now on BBC iPlayer.
