BBC Strictly's Gorka Marquez responds directly to fan who 'couldn't believe' he's left series

Strictly Come Dancing's Gorka Marquez may not have taken home the glitterball in 2022 but that doesn't mean the fan favourite is going anywhere for the next series. The Spanish star, who was paired with Helen Skelton in the most recent series, has directly addressed the rumours he's leaving the series.

The star, who has been on the show since 2016, shared an Instagram post of himself, partner Gemma Atkinson and daughter, Mia, jetting off to his native Spain for the holidays. One fan wrote they "couldn’t believe" he had "left Strictly", to which Gorka responded: "Don’t believe it!" with a winking emoji. It is the first time he has directly addressed claims he was to leave.

Following the final on Saturday, December 17 - which saw Hamza Yassin and Yowita Przystal take home the glitterball - Gorka congratulated the winners on Instagram and then a few days later on December 21 he posted about 'Strictly 23' saying 'let's go' implying he'd be back for the BBC show's next series.

His partner Gemma also laughed about the claims on her Instagram, sharing one of the reports with talk of his departure, saying: "Keep being sent this." And she added with a cheeky-face emoji: "Wish I hadn't said to all backstage crew 'see you next year' now."

She added: "Obv this isn't true at all! Same as it wasn't true about Gio last year. Merry Christmas!"
