BBC Strictly Come Dancing star shares 'mind blowing' photo after forever being mistaken for another celebrity

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips has revealed that fans and viewers often mistake her for current head judge Shirley Ballas. The two posed together for a photo at the Pride of Britain Awards.

Posting the photo to her Instagram, where both women were smiling widely at the camera, Arlene said she is "forever" getting mistaken for Shirley and drew the comparisons between them. She said: "Do we look alike? I'm forever getting mistaken for @shirleyballas I guess the one thing we both have is we are from up North and both have traces of Northern accents in our speech, oh and we both dance!"

She added: "We both love life and we both like strong women." Shirley commented saying she was "in awe" of Arlene.

Shirley said: "Just in awe of you. Known you so many years. You are such a delight. Kindness radiates from your soul. @arlenephillips I'm blessed every time I get to spend time with you" followed by a red love heart emoji.

Two Welsh stars commented on the post with Welsh screenwriter Russell T Davies, who has recently turned to Dr Who, saying "Both amazing" followed by a red love heart and Welsh TV presenter Carol Vorderman added: "You milady are amazing" followed by two heart eye emojis.

Fans also commented noticing their similarities. One said: "Oh wow you two could be sisters you both look amazing ladies x" and another said: "I do think you do look alike" followed by a smiley face emoji. Another simply said: "Mind blown."

Arlene was a judge on Strictly Come Dancing from 2004 to 2009 and Shirley joined the show in 2017, taking over as head judge from Len Goodman. Shirley has come under fire during the current series of Strictly Come Dancing as fans accuse her of being sexist, as she often chooses to save the male celebrity during the dance off - something the head judge has strongly denied.
