BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Kym Marsh shares 'truly emotional moment' with dad amid incurable cancer diagnosis

Kym Marsh has shared an emotional video as her dad started a brand new treatment. The former Coronation Street actress revealed last summer that her father Dave had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer.

She shared how Dave had delayed going to the doctors due the coronavirus pandemic before sharing the devastating news that the disease had spread to his pelvis, spine, ribs and left leg. In June, Kym's parents appeared on Morning Live, which she co-hosts on the BBC, with their daughter to share the importance of getting your prostate checked.

Now, in a fresh update posted to Instagram on Wednesday (October 12), Kym shared a tear-jerking video of Dave ringing a bell in the hospital as he started a new journey with new cancer treatment.

The 46-year-old hailed her dad 'her hero' as she explained how Dave won't get to ring the bell for the same reason as others who recover from the awful disease.

The current Strictly Come Dancing competitor shared a short clip of her dad ringing the bell and being applauded by nurses and said the moment “meant the world” to Dave. Talking to her thousands of followers, Kym penned: "This is our wonderful Daddy. For people that don’t know, he has incurable cancer. But [he] is being treated by the amazing doctors and nurses at his local cancer centre to keep the horrible disease away for as long as possible.

"He started a new treatment. And although he will never get to ring the end of treatment bell to mark the end of his journey with cancer, he got to ring it to mark the beginning of a new journey of hope and to give him a chance to say… I’m fighting back."

She went on: "It was a truly emotional moment and he wanted me to share this video with you all to encourage anyone living with cancer, or the families and friends around them, to stand up and fight, never lose hope and make those little moments mean the most. This day meant the world to dad and it will be a day we never forget." Kym ended her post: "Love you @daveyboy113 my hero."

The post was quickly flooded with support from Kym's celebrity pals and fans. But it was Kym's mum, Pauline, who was among the first to comment. She sweetly replied: "I’m so proud of you my amazing wonderful husband , we’ll fight this together as always." Jason Manford said: "Love your dad." Fellow Strictly 2022 star Fleur East echoed: "Love your Dad! What an amazing man!" @weheartkym wrote: "He is such a legend and the sweetest man to ever exist. Sending you all the biggest amount of love."

@andrewjmills_andy commented: "So brave and such an inspiration- touched and lost for words." @tony_berry_25 shared: "This is so beautiful, I am blessed to now know your dad and think that he is inspiration to all. Keep up the good fight and wish you all the happiness in the world." @robinsonderbyshire added: "Big hugs to you all, especially your amazing Dad, what a lovely man."

Back in June during their Morning Live appearance, Kym's mum Pauline then spoke about the support they've received as she broke down in tears. She said: "Last week, that was the first time that we had Macmillan nurses on board which was brilliant, as I know I've got my family.

"I get upset sorry, I hadn't had any support from anywhere else and didn't know what to do. Dave didn't really understand his painkillers and how to take them and all that so they explained it all."
