Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton has revealed she and her family are starting to 'see the real her again' following her split from husband Richie Myler - and it is all down to the popular BBC One show.
Writing for her column in The Telegraph, The Countryfile presenter, who is one of this year's favourites to take the glitterball crown, said she entered the show wanting her family to see her having fun. But, she revealed she has come away with so much more.
In her Telegraph column, she said: "I came into this wanting my family to see me having fun. That was important for me, and they’re now saying that they’re starting to see the real Helen again, which means the world coming from the people I love."
Helen, 39, announced back in April that her eight-year marriage to Leeds Rhinos star Richie had ended. The announcement came just four months after she gave birth to their third child. Helen and Richie welcomed their baby daughter Elsie Kate on December 28. They also have two young sons Ernie, seven, and Louis, five.
Richie has since struck up a new relationship with girlfriend Stephanie Thirkill. They recently announced they are expecting their first child together.
Helen says she entered Strictly for a number of reasons and hoped she would connect with viewers who could see something they could connect with her. She also says the show has made her realise what her strengths are and what made her happy.
She also reveals how her confidence has changed since the start of the competition. She wrote in The Telegraph: "I couldn’t step on that dancefloor on the first week without wanting to be sick, so last week’s Salsa, when I was out there performing on my own, went as well as I could ever have hoped. "
Helen will be performing with dance partner Gorka Marquez at this week's prestigious show in Blackpool. Strictly will air on Saturday night on BBC One at 7.45pm.
