BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell speaks out on Shirley Ballas' name backlash and reveals private moment

Dianne Buswell has again spoken out after fans were left furious following Strictly Come Dancing's live show on Saturday night. Over the weekend, after getting the dancer's name wrong for a second time, head judge Shirley Ballas was flooded with complaints.

The backlash lead to Dianne pleading for people to 'be kind' in a statement posted on social media. Taking to her Instagram Dianne, who is partnered with Kiss FM DJ Tyler West on the hit show, penned: "'Firstly thank you guys so much for all the support on our dance last night. It was a tough week but I am forever in awe of the hard work and dedication Tyler brings every single week.

"Another point want to address is I have seen a lot of hateful comments aimed at Shirley for simply adding an a to the end of my name which doesn't offend me, but what does make me upset is seeing someone being bullied online."

The Australian dancer added: "We are all human and doing the best we can. Let's all please be kind to one another and not put each other down. Once again thank you for all your positive messages it really does mean a lot to us all." Shirley also shared the post, with no comment, to her own Instagram Story.

Dianne has now addressed the backlash again as she appeared on the Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two with Tyler on Wednesday evening (November 9). "We are all human," she said to the show's host Janette Manrara. Asked about the Instagram post, she said: "She actually apologised to me personally as well and so it was an honest mistake and you know it happens, my pop actually calls me Diana, well did, call me Diana all the time, so I quite like it."

Dianne went on: "We are all human, we are doing the best we can, and sometimes people make mistakes and I don't want anyone to come at her for that, I am not bothered."

The issue was soon put to bed and Dianne and Tyler were able to discuss their upcoming stint in the ballroom this weekend where they'll perform a Paso Doble this week to Unstoppable by E.S. Posthumus. They also looked back on last week's performance in which they danced an elegant Viennese Waltz to I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by Seal.

The couple earned a respectable score of 29. But Dianne admitted it was not their best dance and that a big height difference had made the routine "uncomfortable". Dianne said: "It wasn't the best dance that we have done," before revealing: "He apologised to me afterwards.

"I say 'you've given me everything this week, don't apologise'. Tyler said he just needed to "believe" in himself "a little bit more". Speaking about the height difference again between them having a huge impact on the routine, she said: "We've discovered that Tyler's hips come all the way up to my ribcage.

"So when you're doing the Viennese Waltz the guy has to dive through the ladies legs so obviously there is not much space for him to get through with his long legs. "We just did the best we could. It did make it slightly uncomfortable at times. We made it work and we will continue to make it work."
