BBC Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas 'forgets' how show works

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left feeling rather confused after Shirley Ballas appeared to "forget" how the show worked when she pleaded with fans not to vote anyone out.

We're now almost at the end of the second weekend of the hit BBC dancing show. The first elimination of the series airs tonight (Sunday, October 2), as the two stars with the lowest combined judges scores and viewer votes dance again. As usual, the judges will then vote for their favourite, with head judge Shirley holding the deciding vote, Birmingham Live reports.

However, as Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman opened the live show on Saturday, Shirley appeared to forget that she would be voting for who to send home. Speaking to Tess, she said: "I just want to say to all the people at home, who are experts, please, please vote this evening. I really don't want to send anyone home, please do it for us."

Taking to Twitter, @LeaVictoria02 commented: "Shirley forgot how the show works [laughing emoji]." @ronan367 wrote: "But it is you that sends them home Shirley, not us!"

@Fazzinchi also spotted Shirley's mistake, adding: "That’s not how the format works, Shirley… we vote and you kick someone out." @Mysteron_Voice tweeted: "... but it doesn't matter whether I vote or not, you *will* end up sending someone home Shirley ..."

Strictly viewer @lightbebe2020 said: "Why be an head judge if you don't want to send anybody home you will still have to send them home anyways what a daft thing to say shirley...#Strictly." And @hellenbrown2411 asked: "Does Shirley not know how #Strictly works yet? Doesn’t matter how many votes love - judges still have to send someone home!"
