BBC Strictly Come Dancing favourite Hamza Yassin makes 'exciting' career announcement

Strictly Come Dancing star and wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin has unveiled his new project in which he has swapped the camera lens and his high-scoring dancing shoes for writing. Hamza took to social media to reveal he has written a new book which will be published next year.

Hamza is currently taking the BBC Saturday night series by storm and has become favourite to win after topping the leader board with his impressive routines alongside professional partner, Jowita Przystal. He has also lost more than a stone in weight since he started dancing. Read more about that here.

Hamza's new book, Go Birding: The Joy of Birdwatching and How to Get Started, is described as a "joyful, introductory guide for the budding birdwatcher" by the book's commissioning editor Nicky Crane, Hamza's latest venture is set to be published on August 8, 2023.

The book - his second to be published after CBeebies' 'Let's Go For A Walk in 2021 - will recount stories of the Scotland-based wildlife cameraman, zoologist and presenter's adventures birdwatching alongside a number of tips and tricks to help readers learn about the activity and begin their own birdwatching journey, from identifying species to understanding their behaviours and movements.

Its synopsis reads: "Beautifully illustrated, the book celebrates the birds that surround us, and invites us all to stop, step outside and listen, and open our eyes to the wonder and beauty of these incredible creatures."

The 32-year-old Strictly favourite, who is also known as Ranger Hamza on children's television channel CBeebies, took to Instagram to unveil the news. The wildlife expert - who has links to North Wales having attended university in Bangor - wrote: "I am so excited to announce that my new book, Go Birding, will be published on 8th August 2023 by @octopus_books_ . This book will be full of my advice and stories to help get you started on your own birding adventures. Go Birding is available to pre-order now via the link in my bio."

Following this news, fans and friends of the Strictly star, who is tipped to raise the glitterball trophy (as reported by Chronicle Live), flooded his comments with words of excitement and encouragement. Jowita wrote: "Yay !!!!! Congratulations!!!" alongside Ben Fogle, who put solely a 'hands up' emoji.

Fellow photographer, @papaqbearphotography, said: "Woohoo! Sounds like a good book coming from a fellow avid avian watcher. Looking forward to a day when you can show me some Scottish birds."

@matt_bigley added: "Dude, no end to what you can do. So, so, so bloody proud of what's coming your way" and @shayna.rene said: "Yay! Sounds like a fantastic read. Adding it to my wtr right now!"

This news come soon after Hamza and his dance partner topped the Strictly leaderboard last week with his quickstep to Imagine Dragons' hit song On Top Of The World, for which the dancefloor was transformed into an Arctic scene, honouring his love for mother nature and his work on natural history documentaries.

Go Birding: The Joy of Birdwatching and How to Get Started is available to pre-order on Amazon.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday night at 6.45pm on BBC One.
