BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans defend Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal's win after 'robbed' claims

Viewers were quick to flock to social media as the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2022 was announced. It was another closely-fought final as the four finalists performed their hearts out for the last time in the BBC One dance contest.

After 13 weeks, which started with 15 celebrities and their professional dance partners, it was down to just Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal, and Fleur East and Vito Coppola to fight it out on the dancefloor for the Glitterball trophy.

Each couple had to complete three routines each - a judge's pick, the couple's favourite routine of the series, and a showdance. And after all 12 performances were complete, it was over to viewers to choose their winners.

And with only the viewers' votes counting, and the judges' scores just for guidance, it was Hamza and Jowita Przystal have been crowned winners of Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

The 32-year-old wildlife cameraman and presenter beat the other couples to lift the glitterball trophy on Saturday. He went into the final as favourite to win - and he did, despite coming bottom of the judges overall scores.

After being announced as the winner, Hamza, 32 said: "It's hard to describe how I feel..." before turning to his dance partner. " I want to thank one person in particular... Jowita you are an angel disguised as a human being."

The Animal Park star continued to say: "Thank you to everyone who voted for me. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

And while many were rushing to social media to congratulate Hamza and Jowtia, with the Polish dancer lifting the Glitterball during her first series with a celebrity partner, others were disappointed that their favourites didn't win and claimed they were robbed.

However, many were just as quick to stick up for the winning couple and remind viewers that it was a public vote.

@pipszenik tweeted: "'_______ was robbed' okay, and ? no one was robbed lol they were all amazing, it's a public vote, it might not go the way you want but that doesn't mean anyone was robbed. #Strictly." @easternsparkle said: "To all of the people moaning about the #strictly result - it was a public vote. All four could have won but there is only one trophy. Well done #Hamza."

@drjohncaldwell posted: "#Strictly Please can those saying various competitors were "robbed" that this is a public vote popularity contest and the quality of the dancing merely a vehicle for emotional response. Well done everyone, good TV."

@wright992 commented: "It's a public vote, I didn't agree. He went wrong in the final and wasn't his best week but it's all good. Well done for another Fabulous series #Strictly." @Samboochie28 added: "Honestly that absolute melts than are jumping on their keyboards to piss on a worthy winners parade because their favourite didn’t win probably didn’t pick up the phone to vote anyway yet moaning cause the public vote didn’t go their way. Give your head a wobble #Strictly."
