BBC Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams shares health update as he pulls out of series

Iolo Williams has announced that he’ll be unable to present this year's series of BBC’s Springwatch because he had a stent inserted in April. The orthinologist and presenter, 60, took to social media to update his fans on Friday, May 26.

Writing on Twitter he said: “Unfortunately I can’t co-present @BBCSpringwatch this year. I had a stent inserted in April, which released a clot that, this week, caused an embolysm! My demise has been greatly exaggerated; thanks to brilliant friends, wonderful family & the excellent @NHS. Go Megan & team SW!”

After making the announcement Iolo was met with numerous messages of support. One person replied: “Speedy recovery mate.”

Iolo’s co-host Megan McCubbin said: “Get well soon, and rest up! I’ll do my best on the show… but come back soon.” And a further person wrote in Welsh, “Brysia wella”, which translates to ‘get well soon’.

Iolo, who lives in Powys with his wife Ceri and two sons, was set to host the new series of Springwatch from Dorset. Springwatch begins on Monday, May 29 at 7.30pm on BBC Two. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
