BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 LIVE!
One of the landmark annual events of the British sporting calendar is upon us again this evening with several awards recognising sporting greatness, culminating in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Hodgkinson is joined on the six-person shortlist by England and Real Madrid football star Jude Bellingham, teenage darts sensation Luke Littler, cricketer Joe Root, Para-cyclist Dame Sarah Storey and triathlete Alex Yee.
Other awards being presented tonight include world sport star of the year, young sports personality of the year, coach of the year, team of the year, unsung hero and the Helen Rollason Award for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity. Recently retired cyclist Sir Mark Cavendish will also receive the lifetime achievement award in recognition of a stellar career. Follow the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards live below!

Cavendish snub
17:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePerhaps the most surprising omission from the main SPOTY shortlist is Sir Mark Cavendish, who retired this year after breaking the record for most stage with in Tour de France history.
Though he is set to be honoured tonight in Salford at the BBC ceremony with the lifetime achievement award, his competitive nature has left him with a few frustrations.
"I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hoped to be on the shortlist, but it’s the same as 2021 when I also wasn’t nominated," he said. "The lifetime award is very nice but, as a competitor, the main award is being shortlisted. That’s my job – to compete. Although a SPOTY award is subjective it’s still a competition.
"A lifetime award is a bit like when I received my knighthood earlier in the year. It’s not something you’re expecting or you work towards. It gets bestowed on you so that’s very nice."
Nominee: Alex Yee
17:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneYee won his first individual Olympic crown, upgrading his silver from Tokyo to gold in an epic sprint finish with New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde.
The young Londoner was also part of the mixed relay quartet that won bronze, before going on to claim a first World Triathlon Series title for good measure.

Nominee: Luke Littler
17:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLittler became an instant household name with a remarkable run to the final of the World Darts Championship aged just 16.

Nominee: Jude Bellingham
17:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneBellingham enjoyed a remarkable debut season at Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals across all competitions as the Spanish giants won a Champions League and LaLiga double.
The midfielder was also at the heart of England’s run to the final of Euro 2024, scoring the group stage winner against Serbia and a dramatic bicycle-kick leveller to avoid an early exit against Slovakia in the last-16.
Nominee: Keely Hodgkinson
17:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneTeam GB’s women’s 800m Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson is the favourite to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024.
