BBC show Lightning viewers all saying same thing after Glasgow contestant appears

A Glasgow contestant on BBC quiz show Lightning had viewers all talking about her on Wednesday night – though it wasn't exactly positive.

Debra joins five other contestants in competing in six different rounds of general knowledge questions that test their reaction times and quick-thinking as a spotlight zooms around the studio.

Debra was tasked with answering questions in the form of spelling the answers in a round.

And this was Debra's downfall - as she admitted to host Zoe Lyons that she is a bad speller.

The former complaints handler named Quentin Tarantino as an answer, and had to spell his first name – which she did, as 'Quiten' instead of 'Quentin'.

The next word she had to spell was 'wasabi' - which Debra incorrectly spelled as 'wasibi'.

After her disappointing performance, Debra admitted: "I'm not a good speller.

"At least I was honest about that."

Fans of the BBC show flocked to social media to share their opinions of Debra's performance on Lightning, and many were in agreement.

One Twitter user said: "'I'm not a good speller'. Why come on a programme with spelling then?"

Another said: "Debra didn't even spell her own name properly."

And a third wrote: "I hate the spelling round on Lightning."

However, some viewers were full of praise for Debra's performance, with some taking to Twitter to say: "Well played Debra and Molly", and "Well played Debra, good luck to Greg."

Quiz show Lightning is on next on Thursday March 31, at 6:30pm on BBC Two.
