BBC Scotland stage won't make my Cumnock boys freeze says boss Brian McGinty

Brian McGinty insists Cumnock won’t take stage fright as they prepare for one of their biggest ever games tomorrow (Friday) evening.

BBC Scotland will broadcast their Scottish Cup second round tie against Dumbarton, the first ever live TV screening of a match from Townhead Park.

It’s a huge history-making clash with a bumper crowd expected and McGinty backs his troops to rise to the occasion.

The ‘Nock gaffer said: “It won’t be a fitness thing as we are both part-time but I would back our boys’ fitness against any of the part-time teams.

“I don’t think they have better players than us but it’s a consistency thing. I believe if we get enough of our players playing at their maximum we’ve got a chance.

“I don’t think it’s a game we go into fearing and if you go in with belief then you’ve a chance.”

It will be a nostalgic return to Townhead for Sons boss Stevie Farrell who spent seven seasons at ‘Nock as a player and then manager.

Seven wins in a row had Dumbarton flying high at the top of League Two but they have failed to win any of their last four, including a 6-0 hammering by Stirling Albion who have displaced them in top spot.

Cumnock earned the tie with a 2-1 win away to Highland League side Keith after being handed a prelim round bye when Scottish Amateur Cup winners Tower Hearts scratched.

The goals were flowing on Saturday as ‘Nock crushed Mid Annandale 7-0 in the South Challenge Cup. On target were Jamie Conn (2), Greg Ferry, Brendan Sharpe, Callan Veitch, Jordan Moore and Graham Boyd.
