BBC Scotland reporter taken to hospital for a hand injury which turned septic

BBC correspondent David Cowan thanked doctors and nurses after being taken to hospital for a hand injury which began to turn septic

David, who is Home Affairs Correspondent for BBC Scotland, showed his gratitude online.

And the Edinburgh based reporter also posted a picture of an appetising looking meal served up to him during his six day long stay at St John's hospital in Livingston.

He wrote on Twitter: "Heading home after 6 days at St John’s in Livingston, where exceptionally hard working doctors, nurses and staff fixed my dodgy right hand, warded off sepsis and treated me with great kindness and care.

The picture shows the old school buzzer for calling for help. Thanks to all.

Showing what looked like a saucy fish dish, he added: "And I should’ve mentioned - the food was great."

Well-wishers sent messages including one sayoing: 'Sorry to hear you’ve had such a horrible time. Hope you are feeling a lot better and on the mend."

Another added: "Glad to hear you're on the mend now, that sounds pretty unpleasant, apart from the food anyway (and the staff)."

David replied: "Ach it wasn’t too bad - I just wanted to publicly thank them - and the Western General - for their help.

And he told one person: "Wee bit of a nasty infection but on the mend."
