BBC viewers appear divided over Leeds-based series Better with some calling the plotline "confusing", while others have asked for better subtitles.
The second episode of the programme aired on BBC One at 9pm tonight, February 20. Naturally, the crime drama has attracted fans of hit show Happy Valley due to its promising concept and gritty vibe in a Yorkshire setting, but viewers have not quite made up their minds about whether Better is delivering.
During the latest episode, the show picks up after corrupt DI Lou Slack, played by Leila Farzad, was asked to promise criminal Col McHugh, played by Andrew Buchanan, that she would not go against his word again. Col, who has started to question her loyalties, decides to test her after his gang tells him to "never trust a dirty cop".

DI Slack meanwhile tells her husband that she wants to go straight as she can't continue to supply Col with insider information, especially after their son Owen ended up in hospital with bacterial meningitis. She debates whether to resign from her job to render herself useless to the criminal but realises she relies on him financially.
The episode ends with DI Slack making an unusual alliance and coming up with a plan to get out of this mess. Opinions were split following tonight's watch.
@fx550Mike wrote on Twitter: "#Better One of the slowest so-called crime dramas @BBCOne has shown. Gave up on it due to losing will to live."
@Lanzabear27 said: "I hope #better gets better but I doubt it, truly dreadful so far.....it ain't no #HappyValley."
And @jackwhiteisgod complained: "Hey #bbc We’re not all watching programmes on tellys the size of Odeon cinema screens so how about adding subtitles for scenes that involve text messages? If I bother sticking with #Better I may have to invest in some opera glasses."
Meanwhile, @signoramac praised: "This drama is getting a lot #Better."
@LouiseWraith commented: "Gave Better another chance after finding it painfully slow last week, glad I did.. it’s got #Better."
And @DanJBrownMUFC said: "I am enjoying #Better, I’m finding it interesting watching the storyline unravel."
Some found the plotline confusing. @suzysasha wrote: "Better The only reason I'm still watching us because I like the lead actress. Otherwise its a bit confusing at times, or maybe it's just me."
And @choirgirl293 tweeted: "I have got absolutely no idea what is going on in #Better, but Andy Buchan is in it, and that's all that matters.
You can watch Better on Mondays on BBC One at 9pm. All episodes are also available to stream as a box set on the iPlayer.
