BBC's Gladiators gets huge shake-up before release of new reboot series

BBC are reportedly shaking up the reboot of Gladiators by searching far and wide for more interesting people.

After viewers called the stars of the older version boring, it looks like bosses are looking to make sure the new Gladiators are as strong as they are engaging.

It has been reported that applicants are being asked which superstar would play them in a movie.

They also need to answer what 'superpower' they have.

"Bosses want the new Gladiators to have bundles of personality, just like the original," an insider claimed.

"It’s tough to remember any of the Gladiators from the Sky version as they were deemed too robotic."

Mirror have contacted BBC for comment.

"The reboot will have more of a nod to the original, where the cast became huge stars," the sourced added to The Sun.

BBC recently confirmed the reboot of the widely-loved nineties series, with fresh episodes to air in 2023.

The series previously aired on ITV and will welcome a brand new generation of superhuman contestants, similar to icons like Jet and Cobra.

The BBC says the new series will also include brand new games alongside classic challenges, culminating at the end of each episode with fan favourite The Eliminator.

The news of the show's return was confirmed at the Edinburgh International Television Festival as Kate Phillips, Director of Unscripted at the BBC, paid homage to one of the iconic lines from the original series.

She added: "I can confirm on my first whistle it’s coming back."

Confirming the news Kate added in a statement: "Gladiators is back and a whole new generation of viewers can now look forward to watching a Saturday night spectacle like no other.

"Will the contenders have the will and the skill to succeed against our mighty new Gladiators? You’ll have to tune in to find out!”

Holly Willoughby's husband Dan Baldwin, will make the show with his Hungry Bear production company.

Dan said: "It’s the perfect time for Gladiators to return. What other show combines electric excitement, superheroes, giant sponge fingers, elite athletes, and a pinch of pantomime? Watch out for the new breed of superhuman, supersized, superstars bursting on to your screens on BBC One and iPlayer."
