BBC's Dan Walker posts touching tribute after Carol Kirkwood confirms engagement live on air

BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker posted a touching picture to Instagram after colleague Carol Kirkwood announced her engagement live on air. Reporting from The Chelsea Flower Shop, the 59-year-old was prompted by her co-workers after they spotted her sporting a new piece of jewellery.

Meanwhile, former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker couldn't contain his excitement for the happy news and posted a heart-warming photo of himself embracing Carol on his official Instagram page. He joked about her finding someone who could handler her "headlock hugs".

He added the caption: "Carol Kirkwood is the best of us. Delighted she has found someone who can handle her headlock hugs. Congratulations Carol. If you get married live on #BBCBreakfast can I come back for a one off?"

After being prompted by Sally and Jon, Carol confirmed that her partner proposed during a recent holiday, saying: "It’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled. Thank you."

The BBC studio then erupted into a round of applause as Jon added: "Oh we’re all thrilled, we’re all so chuffed for you, Carol. On behalf of all the team here and everybody watching I’m sure. Absolutely delighted."

The former Strictly Come Dancing star has not revealed the identity of her future husband-to-be, but recently opened up about her new love life in an interview with Prima Magazine, as seen in MyLondon.

She revealed: "I don’t want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he’s always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well."

The BBC Breakfast presenter then added: "He is the best thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt." Carol was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood but the couple divorced in 2008 after 18 years of marriage.
