BBC's Clare Balding leaves Wimbledon viewers confused with live coverage 'mistake'

Clare Balding sparked major confusion from BBC viewers who tuned into Wimbledon coverage on Wednesday evening, as they 'missed out' on live coverage from the famous tournament.

After Sue Barker announced before last year's tournament had even started, that she was stepping down from her role as lead Wimbledon anchor after 30 years, speculation was rife on who would replace her, as fans shared their upset at her leaving. Earlier this year like many tennis fans assumed would happen, seasoned presenter Clare was confirmed as Sue's replacement and she made her debut at SW19 on Monday.

Clare was back at the helm on Wednesday, as viewers quickly became engrossed in the game between Great Britain's Arthur Ferry, ranked 391 in the world and Daniel Medvedev, world number 3, before fellow Brit, Heather Watson crashed out in the first round against 10th seed Barbora Krejcikova.

Claire to anchor the BBC coverage of Wimbledon into the evening but, caused some confusion when coverage of a match between Jasmine Paolini and Petra Kvitovawas meant to switch from BBC One to BBC Two, as BBC One prioritised the late episode of The Great British Sewing Bee. It was Clare who instructed viewers still keen to follow the 'fascinating' game, to switch over to BBC Two,, but when they did, they were instead greeted by a highlights show.

Including Clare in their tweet, one annoyed tennis fan took to Twitter to post: "What's happened to live #wimbledon coverage on BBC 2 that viewers on BBC 1 were told was starting?! Equally frustrated, a second tweeted: "So Clare Balding said turn over to bbc 2 to watch the rest of the match. Where was it?"

Hitting out at the BBC coverage of Wimbledon so far in general, several viewers declared there'd been far too much 'channel hopping' in the first few days, with them having to rely heavily on the red button to catch all the live action.
