BBC Radio 2’s Sara Cox says she was sacked from modelling job for being ‘too fat’

Our Coxy has always been blessed with a svelte figure.

Even during the party heyday of the 90s, Sara Cox managed to keep trim.

But the BBC Radio 2 drivetime host said today she was once sacked from a modeling job after putting on a few too many pounds while working overseas.

She was in South Korea and was asked to leave by the modelling agency for “bad behaviour” - which basically amounted to eating too much food.

The Bolton-born presenter explained on This Morning that she was feeling homesick after flying out to the other side of the world and was seeking comfort from some familiar flavours.

She told presenters John Barrowman and Rochelle Hulmes: “I was quite homesick and so I was eating a lot of boiled eggs and fried rice.

“It turns out you put on a few pounds if you do that. So I won’t be releasing a diet DVD anytime soon.

“In the end the modelling agency were like, ‘Sara you’ve got too fat, you’ve gotta go home’."

Sara, 44, didn’t seem that bothered - she jetted back home and got her first TV break as a presenter on the Girlie Show with Sarah Cawood, Claire Gorham, and Rachel Williams in 1996.

The story went into her book Till The Cows Come Home, which follows her life growing up in the 1980s in Bolton.

She also discussed her new ITV weekend programme, the Sara Cox Show, which features entertainment, live music and celebrity guests.

When asked whether she prefers radio or TV, Sara said: “I always said that radio was my real true love and telly was a bit on the side.

“But because they’re so different, I can’t wait to be doing all the interviews and meeting people for the weekend.

“It’s like the children, you can’t have favourites.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
