BBC Radio 2 pulls Paul O'Grady show off air as devastated fans vow to 'switch off'

Paul O'Grady has left fans devastated after news broke his BBC2 Radio Show would be coming off air again soon.

The 67-year-old broadcaster told fans over the weekend he'll be absent from the airwaves for more than three months as he shared an image of his mic which he uses in the radio studio to social media. He explained that it would be his penultimate show, meaning next Sunday (August 14) would be his last before he is pulled off air for 13 weeks.

The 67-year-old comedian captioned the post: "Penultimate show today. Hope you’re enjoying the sun unless you’re somewhere where it’s raining then ignore that #teampogradio @malprin." Fans were absolutely gutted over the news, with some threatening to 'switch off' from the BBC radio channel.

One fan said: "Not again, why don’t radio 2 just leave your show on the air, I stop listening when you're not on! X" Another wrote: "I don’t like this whole 13 weeks on 13 weeks off thing. Radio 2 did a bit of a miss step there."

A third chimed in: "Oh no, Sundays are not the same without you. I shall keep radio silence (on Sundays) till you are back. Enjoy whatever you'll be doing x" A fourth tweeted: "Absolutely gutted but not surprised to hear that #PaulOGrady is leaving @BBCRadio2 Those at the top should ashamed at letting some of their best presenters go. Sundays will truly not be the same without you. @malprin #TeamPOG "

Another disappointed fan penned: "Gutted! Absolutely gutted! Loved the banter, the humour, not found anywhere else. I never missed a programme and many times listened twice, thanks to @BBCSounds @malprin you produced a highly entertaining show for all to enjoy and #paulogrady is just a natural, funny guy. Sad day"

Someone else speculated: "Sad news. What's going on @BBCRadio2? Guessing @paulogrady leaving before he was finally pushed. #anotheronebitesthedust "

This is the second time that Paul has had his radio show pulled from the regular Sunday afternoon slot after previously being replaced by Rob Beckett for three months. Paul took the news well, saying it was a "new regime" whereby he would do 13 weeks on and 13 weeks off.

But that news isn't good enough for some fans who were disappointed. Some said they wouldn't listen to the 5pm-7pm Sunday slot while he was away.
