BBC Question Time: Woman blasts 'talentless' Tories after Hancock enters I'm a Celeb

A member of the public has blasted the 'talentless' Tory party after Matt Hancock jetted off to become a contestant in this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

The woman appeared to leave a senior Tory squirming in his seat during the heated discussion on BBC Question Time, which was broadcast from Horsham in Sussex on Thursday night.

This week's panel featured Policing Minister Chris Philp , shadow Northern Ireland secretary Peter Kyle, Economist editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, George the Poet and ASDA chairman Lord Stuart.

One of the hottest topics of the evening was over whether sitting MPs should be allowed to take part in reality shows - and an audience member sat a few rows back was not afraid to make her feelings known, commenting: "He should be in Parliament, he's been elected by his constituents, he should be there working for them."

The comments came during a discussion on Matt Hancock's appearance on I'm A Celebrity, which drew near-unanimous condemnation (BBC)

She then moved on to take on the government's record, saying: "There is no talent whatsoever in this Conservative government. One after the other has been an absolute shambles, failure after failure.

"In all of this, really, leadership has been completely missed. I really mean it."

Mr Philp appeared slightly uncomfortable as he listened to the woman's damning assessment of her party, making a nervous smile and commenting "ouch" as she told Fiona Bruce she would include him in her description of "talentless" members of the government.

A few moments earlier, the policing minister seemed to be laughing along with the rest of the panel as Fiona recalled another MP's comments this week describing Hancock as an "absolute prat".

Mr Philp even chimed in with a gag of his own at the former health minister's expense, saying "“going on this programme appears to involve doing embarrassing things on CCTV so I can’t imagine why they chose him".

Other members of the panel and the majority of the audience joined in with the condemnation, with only one member of the audience speaking out in mild support of the West Suffolk MP.

Matt Hancock, who will enter the Australian jungle on Sunday, November 9, was stripped of the Tory whip after news emerged of his his upcoming stint on the reality TV show this week.
