AN AUDIENCE member on BBC Question Time has spoken out about the inaction from global governments over the “barbaric” attacks from Israel on the people from Palestine.
Fiona Bruce hosted the political show in Milton Keynes last night and was joined by cabinet minister Nick Thomas-Symonds, former Tory minister Nadhim Zahawi, Green MP Carla Denyer, and former chairman of Reform UK Zia Yusuf.
One of the topics of discussion last night was should the UK be sending weapons to Israel, which prompted one audience member to speak out about how she is sick of seeing “images of innocent people being bombed to death”.
The woman stated that not enough was being done by the UK or foreign governments to stop the attacks and that Israel wasn’t just simply “defending themselves”.
She said: “I'm getting a bit fed up with and sick to death of hearing of Israel's right to defend itself.
“What Israel is doing is barbaric, it is not defending itself, defensive is when you do that [gestures holding her arms out with open palms] stopping someone attacking you.
“What they are doing, these Palestinians who have no way of stopping these bombs coming over, shooting down the planes, it's obscene what I'm seeing on TV.
“It's so gut wrenching, I do not know anybody with an average IQ can't work out what the hell's going on.
“The civilised world should take action and stop that and do it by political negotiations and most people are saying ‘oh you can’t do it by bombing them to smithereens you’ve got to negotiate’ then why the hell are they not doing that?"
She added: “The people I talk to are sickened of seeing these images of innocent people being bombed to death and the way they are living is absolutely appalling.”
According to recent statistics by the United Nations, more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed with a further 94,000 injured and 10,000 missing since the war began on October 7, 2023.
With recent escalations between Israel and Lebanon, with the death toll surpassing more than 700 in Lebanon, there are growing fears of an all-out war breaking in the Middle East.
Calls for a ceasefire and for the UK to stop supplying weapons to Israel have increased in several weeks as the war in Gaza has almost reached the one-year mark.
On Wednesday First Minister John Swinney called for an immediate and binding ceasefire as he posted on social media: “The worsening situation in the Middle East is a cause of the deepest concern.
“It is essential that there is a binding ceasefire now to end the suffering in Gaza and to act to avoid escalating conflict in Lebanon.”
