BBC presenter accidentally interviews Eurovision fan instead of Finland act

People were confused after a BBC presenter mistook a Eurovision superfan for a contestant.

When BBC North West Tonight aired on Tuesday, May 9, viewers were confused after a presenter claimed she "managed to catch up" with Finland act Käärijä, who had just performed "Cha Cha Cha" to a packed M&S Bank Arena.

But people on social media were quick to point out the person the presenter interviewed was not Käärijä, and was instead a superfan. The presenter asked: "How do you think Liverpool has done out there".

The superfan replied: "Incredible. In comparison with the countries that I've been [to] this is better organised, everything is walking distance and it's so friendly. Everything is just so easy around here, it's incredible."

Text appeared under the fans face saying "Käärijä - Finland entrant".

TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan tweeted about the tv programme and said: "OH MY GOD BBC North West Tonight interviewed a Käärijä fan thinking it was HIM. ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL."

The tweet has more than 500 likes, 100 retweets and dozens or replies.

Twitter user Shannon_xoxo said: "BBC North West, hate to break it to you but this is not Käärijä."
