Actor Jamie Dornan, known for his role as Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey series and currently starring in the BBC 's The Tourist, suffered great personal tragedy in 2021.

The 39-year-old was unable to visit and comfort his family when in March 2021 his father, Jim Dornan, died from Covid after going to the hospital in Dubai for a routine knee operation.

Jamie was stuck in isolation in Australia and still had five days of isolation left when his father suddenly passed away in Dubai.

He has told The Sun that losing his father meant 2021 was the worst and hardest year of his life and he lost his mother aged just 16.

Jamie's mother, Lorna, passed away from pancreatic cancer when he was 16 and his dad helped him focus on acting and his career while dealing with the grief.

His father, Jim, was a professor and very successful obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast.

Jamie currently lives in the Gloucestershire countryside with his wife Amelia Warner and their three daughters and he will be starring in the new Sir Kenneth Branagh film Belfast.

Currently Jamie is playing the lead of 'The Man' in the BBC drama The Tourist and you can read more about the show here.
