BBC One Show: Tom Daley sparks viewers to ask 'Can we have Alex Jones back?'

Tom Daley guest presented The One Show this evening but many fans thought he was better off sticking to the pool, rather than the television screen. The Olympic diver received mixed reviews from fans, with some calling for the return of Alex Jones.

Daley, who joined the pop star Ronan Keating in presenting the show tonight (21 July). While some viewers said he was "doing really well" others thought he should "stick to swimming."

@Lost_In_Films_ tweeted "Tom Daley is an awful interviewer", while @socialmediajon1 added "Can we have Alex Jones back please? Thanks Everyone #TheOneShow" and @Sheltie_Dreams "#TomDaley stick to the swimming please #theoneshow"

@Poplifer73 was clearly a fan of Daley, but was critical of his appearance on the programme tonight. He tweeted: "I’m sorry but Tom Daley is an exceptional sports personality but an absolute dreadful host! #TheOneShow #BBCOne #BBCOneShow.

@SocialMediaJon1 was left wishing the usual presenters were back on the sofa. He said: "Can we have Alex Jones back please? Thanks Everyone."

@Lost_In_Films_Dear called on the show to hire trained media presenters. They said: " #TheOneShow please get some proper presenters and not just celebs from other fields looking to take over tv. Plenty of trained media graduates looking for work."

However, it wasn't all criticism as @TheRealDeclanK1 tagged the sports personality in his tweet saying "I must say @TomDaley1994 is doing really well presenting on #TheOneShow"

The One Show is always a popular pick of the teatime magazine shows, with some recent highlights including an appearance from My Family/ Love Actually actor Kris Marshall to talk about ITV period drama Sanditon and an interview with Ryan Gosling, that saw viewers gushing over the Hollywood star, as he revealed his wife’s reaction to the news that he would star in the Barbie movie.

This evening's show saw regular presenter Ronan Keating (who has been in the headlines recently, after his son, Jack, appeared on Love Island 2022 as part of Casa Amor) and Daley joined by a host of famous faces. They included Daisy Edgar-Jones and Harris Dickinson who were talking about their new film Where The Crawdads Sing, comedian Joe Lycett, while Radio DJ Greg James completed an intense 10m diving challenge that was shown live.

The show also featured segments on the Commonwealth Games' imminent arrival to Birmingham and the way the city feels about competition, as well as the programme's "One Big Thank You" nomination going to Yasmin from Birmingham who created an initiative to make football more accessible to women from Muslim and Asian backgrounds.

The One Show is on BBC One weeknights at 7 pm, with regular presenters Alex Jones, Jermaine Jenas, and Ronan Keating.
