The co-founders of Bristol business Billy Chip were featured on The One Show last night (January 19). John and Megan Abernethy-Hope thought they were being interviewed by the BBC about homelessness in the city but were soon in for a pleasant surprise.
As they were being interviewed at music venue The Louisiana, they were interrupted by some noise upstairs. After going up to see what it was, the pair were treated to a live gig from popstar Tom Grennan.
The act was a thank you from the BBC for the incredible work that Billy Chip continue to do in Bristol. Since starting up around five years ago, they have saved the lives of hundreds of homeless people and rough sleepers across the city.

The business stemmed from an idea from Billy Abernethy-Hope who was just 20 when he died while on holiday with his friends in Thailand in 2018. He came up with the idea of the Billy Chip - a token which people can buy and then give to homeless people, which they can then exchange for a cup of tea or coffee.
After his tragic death, his family decided to make his dream idea into a reality. It began as a small gesture to help those on the streets feel safer and is now appreciated by many across Bristol.
