BBC Michael McIntyre's The Wheel: Who is celebrity contestant Sindhu Vee?

The Wheel once again boasted an all star line up during Saturday's, November 5 episode. Host Michael McIntyre was joined by Ed Balls, Clara Amfo, Ally McCoist, Dan Walker, Stacey Dooley, John Whaite and comedian Sindhu Vee.

Sindhu, who also appears on The Jonathan Ross Show this week, is currently promoting her new film, Matilda The Musical. In the film, the 53-year-old plays Mrs Phelps, the librarian. However, this isn't Sindhu's first foray into showbiz.

Having made two television appearances this week, here's a rundown on who exactly is Sindhu Vee and where you may have seen her before.

Born in New Delhi, India, Sindhu studied in the UK at Oxford University. She is a stand-up comic who is known for appearances on radio and TV panel shows. Despite appearing in BBC's coveted Live at the Apollo spot, the comedian only began her career in comedy at the age of 43. Before this, she worked in banking as a bonds tradeswoman in London.

Discussing her entry into comedy, she told the Evening Standard: “I got an email from someone who said she was doing stand-up and she was one of the least funny people I knew. My first performance was a heat in the Funny Women competition in 2012. I got offstage and never looked back. I was home. I cannot tell you how grateful I was.”

Since then, she has performed in the US, India and the UK. She is now a well-known performer on the comedy circuit and has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe several times. She has also made numerous TV appearances and has been on BBC's Have I Got News for You? and Mock the Week. In 2021, she switched to acting and appeared in the second season of Netflix's Sex Education, playing Olivia's mother. She has also appeared in Rose Matafeo's BBC series Starstruck

Sindhu is married with three children, and the family live in London. Not much is known about her husband other than he is a Danish financier. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
