BBC MasterChef star Gregg Wallace 'missing' from show and replaced by new judge

MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace was missing from the BBC show as he was replaced with a new judge. The judge on the BBC show failed to show on Thursday’s (May 18) episode.

Co-host John Torode made an announcement on MasterChef that someone would be stepping in for Gregg, reports Birmingham Live. John said: "You may notice that someone's missing. Sadly, Gregg is unwell.

"So we have invited in a special guest to help me judge. Somebody who knows this competition back to front. Ladies and gentlemen, could you please welcome chef, restaurateur and MasterChef professionals judge - Monica Galetti."

Fans took to Twitter to send Greg well wishes and welcome Monica to the show. One fan on Twitter rushed to support Gregg, writing: "Hurry back Gregg!!"

"I hope Gregg gets well soon. However, this episode of #MasterChef is better for his absence," said a second. A third said: "Enjoying the #MasterChef contestants barely containing their glee at not having to talk to Gregg."

"Monica standing in for Gregg? Now THAT'S an upgrade! #MasterChef #MasterChefUK," said a user. "Gregg unwell, a bad case of Wahey!! Fever. #MasterChef," said another.

On the show, the synopsis from the Beeb said: "The second group of seven hopefuls compete for the chance to work in a professional kitchen for the first time. They must cook a dish they would have on the menu of their own restaurant or pop-up, or feature in their cookbook."

Monica and John ran the rule over each of the remaining contestants during a tense hour-long episode. MasterChef was followed by Gordon Ramsay's BBC Future Food Stars tonight on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, in a double whammy of cooking action on the broadcasting giant on May 18.
