BBC issues warning to Freeview users to make change or risk losing new channel

BBC Three is making a comeback to our screens tonight, but some viewers could miss out unless they update their devices.

Starting on Tuesday, February 1, millions will tune in at 7pm to watch the popular BBC channel which is returning for the first time after moving online in 2016.

If you want to make the most of BBC Three, you should make sure your telly box is all up to date after the BBC issued a warning.

The BBC has confirmed that some Freeview users won't see this new service unless they have updated things.

Explaining more in post online the BBC explained: "Freeview users may need to retune to find BBC Three, if it’s not already listed in your EPG (electronic programme guide)."

If you are a Sky, Freesat and Virgin customer your box should update automatically.

RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World will air on BBC Three (BBC)

Freeview has a full guide on how to re-tune things on its website - you can find details here.

The BBC added that viewers using Virgin will need to reset any BBC One or BBC Four series links due to technical changes being made to support the launch of BBC Three.

Once you've updated your Freeview device you'll find BBC Three will be available via Channel 23. However, this launch has created a slight issue as that slot is currently filled by Dave.

In fact, a number of channels are being jigged around with with services such as ITV4, Yesterday, ITV+1 and GREAT! Movies all moving.

In fact, all channels between numbers 23 and 82 will be moving up one number except Dave Ja Vu who will be moving up 2 channels from numbers 23 to 25.

Explaining more in a blog post, Freeview said: "Following Ofcom’s consultation on BBC’s proposals for the launch of BBC Three, the channel will be launching on Freeview channel 23 in SD and channel 109 in HD (For England, Northern Ireland & the Channel Islands) on 26 January 2022.

"Changes to some channel numbers will be taking place at midday on 26 January to comply with requirements published by Ofcom as part of their consultation."
