BBC iPlayer cuts out with minutes left of Uruguay vs Ghana to leave fans fuming

Viewers of this afternoon's World Cup action were left fuming when BBC's iPlayer service switched to a different show before cutting out during injury-time in Uruguay's crucial clash against Ghana.

The final round of Group H matches were full of drama from the off, with all three of Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea able to qualify in the final game. The South American side were second in the group going into added-time after they scored twice to lead Ghana 2-0, but a late winner from Hwang Hee Chan instead sent South Korea into the qualifying spots in dramatic fashion.

Their win over Portugal finished some time earlier than the pivotal game, with viewers of the iPlayer service instead being switched to a Welsh Rugby show before eventually being cut off completely.

One fan furiously tweeted: " @BBCSport having a nightmare with iPlayer at this years world cup Just cut from the final two minutes on the most exciting game so far!" while others labelled the gaff a 'disaster'.

The problem occurred in the dying minutes of the game, with Uruguay chasing one goal in order to leapfrog South Korea and qualify. The Asian side were in second on the basis they had scored one more goal, but a third Uruguay goal would have improved their goal difference and taken them into the round-of-16.

Ultimately, the South Americans could not find the goal they so desperately needed, with scenes of jubilation among the South Korea squad shown - by the time iPlayer was back up and running.
