BBC Glow Up: Glasgow woman to appear on Britain's Next Make-Up Star

A Glasgow woman is set to appear on the BBC's hit television series, Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star.

The show will follow 10 aspiring make-up artists putting their talents to the test after being handed assignments from the likes of TV and film, theatre and fashion to front covers and on-line beauty campaigns.

Series five will begin on May 2 (Tuesday) at 6am and BBC Three at 8pm - and it's great news for us Scots, and Glaswegians, as two of the hopeful winners come from Glasgow and Dundee.

This isn't the first time a Glasgow contestant has entered the show with Yong-Chin, then a freelance make-up artist and part time nanny, winning the show last year after constantly blowing the judges away. The humble make-up artist was in shock as it was announced, winning a contract to assist some of the world's top make-up artists.

So who are the Scots hopefuls looking to take home the series five crown? Here is what you need to know

BBC Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star

On-May, 21 (she/her)

On-May is a student and works as a retail make up artist (MUA) in Glasgow.

The 21-year-old got into make-up after watching the video for Michael Jackson’s Thriller and seeing a fellow school pupil’s perfect eyeliner. From there, her passion, and skills, grew with her keen to show off just what she is capable of.

This mixture of Halloween horror and flawless glamour sums up On-May’s style perfectly, say the BBC with the Glasgow star loving to create out-there characters based on what she’s learning in her film and TV make-up course.

Axel, 27 (he/they)

The new series starts in May. (WALL TO WALL / DAVE KING)

Axel is a computer arts student from Dundee and first began experimenting with make-up as a teenager.

At that time, they were heavily inspired by creature design and became obsessed with turning themselves into monsters.

The 27-year-old loves drag and transforming themselves into interdimensional beings - and just like Oh-May, is another contestant that is sure to impress us, and everyone watching at home making us Scots proud.

Glow Up series 5 comes to BBC iPlayer on Tuesday 2 May at 6pm and BBC Three at 8pm. Episodes will then air weekly on Wednesdays.
