THE BBC’s coverage of the Eurovision grand final pulled in a record audience on Saturday, and it turns out there were many Scots watching with eagle eyes who noticed an embarrassing error.
Montages played before each act showed iconic locations from around Ukraine, the UK and the country that was about to go on stage.
And when Loch Ness appeared on the screen ahead of Switzerland’s performance with a tagline saying “Loch Ness”, Scots noticed something rather odd seconds later – an image of Eilean Donan castle, which is about 50 miles away.
The BBC switched to a picture of the small tidal island, insinuating that the castle was located on the banks of Loch Ness.
While many Scots said they enjoyed seeing images of the beautiful building included in the coverage, others were cringing and said the BBC “ruined it” because of the inaccuracy.

The situation became more absurd later on when the same image was used again and this time it was labelled correctly, almost as if the BBC realised its awkward error…
The only other Scottish location featured throughout the montages was Hopetoun House on the banks of the Firth of Forth.
Given Scotland nearly hosted the competition, we expected better…
