BBC F1 reporter Jennie Gow shares “exhausting” update after stroke with rehab every day

BBC Formula 1 reporter Jennie Gow has shared an update on her health after suffering a "serious stroke" earlier this month.

Gow is one of the most recognisable faces in F1, and has proven to be an integral part of the BBC's coverage. The journalist also played a huge role in Netflix's hit F1 documentary 'Drive to Survive, having featured heavily in season three of the production.

Towards the end of 2022, Gow became an absentee from television screens and broke the news why earlier this month. Taking to Twitter to reveal her illness, Gow said: "Hi everyone, been quiet the last few weeks, this is because I suffered a serious stroke two weeks ago.

"My husband is helping me type this, as I’m finding it hard to write and my speech is most affected. I’m desperate to make a full recovery and return to work but it might take some time. Thank you to the medical teams at Frimley and St George’s and my family and friends who’ve got me through the last fortnight X.”

Two weeks on from her original post, Gow has now given an update on her condition which includes her having rehab every single day. The F1 reporter once again posted on Twitter, and admitted she was just starting to learn to type and write again due to the effects.

She said: "A month ago today I collapsed with a stroke. With a lot of help from the NHS, family and friends we are finally finding our feet in this post stroke world. I am having rehab everyday (with a lot of homework) and we are seeing progress, but I can't tell you how exhausting it is."

Paying tribute to her daughter and her husband Jamie for their help, Gow added: "A final mention to my daughter and most importantly the husband. Without him, I might not be here now. (Excuse any mistakes - learning to write again is tough) Thanks for your support!!"

Following her social media update, the F1 reporter received plenty of support. Her BBC colleague, journalist Sonali Shah sent her wishes on Twitter, responding: "Oh Jenny - sending you love and strength for your recovery."

Fellow presenter Nicola Hume also sent her love and best to Gow, tweeting: "One day at a time. Sending you lots of love xx" And the same could be said for the world of motorsport, as two-time British champion Abbie Eaton commented on Instagram: " Great to hear you’re seeing improvement! more to come! Xxx"
