BBC Eurovision Catherine Tate's real name, famous exes and hidden health battle

The excitement for Eurovision is at fever pitch ahead of tonight's Grand Final.

26 acts will perform at the M&S Bank Arena to see who will be crowned this year's winner. BAFTA winning actor, Catherine Tate, has the honour of carrying out one of the most important roles as she has been named the UK's Eurovision spokesperson .

Catherine was thrilled as she was picked to announce the results live from Merseyside tonight. She said: "It’s very exciting to be announcing the iconic douze points at Eurovision. It’s just a foot in the door really as next year I hope to be the UK entrant."

Catherine follows in the footsteps of previous spokespeople which includes AJ Odudu, Amanda Holden, Nigella Lawson, Mel Giedroyc and Richard Osman along with numerous other famous faces. The Doctor Who star will announce the jury scores before handing over to Hannah Waddingham, Graham Norton, Alesha Dixon and Julia Sanina who will deliver the televotes.

Although she is known by her stage name, the performer was born Catherine Ford. The surname Tate was inspired by a character from US sitcom Soap, and Catherine adopted the name when she took her Equity card to join the trade union for performing artists.

Away from the world of showbiz, Catherine is in a happy relationship with screenwriter Jeff Gutheim. The two were engaged in 2019 and it is unknown if they have tied the knot.

She has previously dated a number of celebrities as she was romantically linked with Take That's Jason Orange. The two met in unlikely circumstances as John Bishop revealed the romance was sparked while filming a Take That themed spoof video for Comic Relief.

He said: "I was there when Catherine Tate - who was playing Jason Orange and looked like Jason Orange - was talking to Jason Orange and said to him 'maybe we should have a coffee, can I get your number?'. And he said 'Yeah.' Now they are supposedly seeing each other."

Bishop added: "It must be odd fancying someone that looks like you, but I think, good luck to them. They are both lovely people."

The two split up in 2011 and Catherine went on to date former One Show presenter Adrian Chiles. They went public in September 2013 when they were spotted kissing on a trip to America but Mirror Online reported they split in December that year.

Catherine was previously in a long-term relationship with Twig Clark and the two share a daughter named Erin. Catherine gave birth in January 2003 and revealed her baby had to be delivered via caesarean after her labour took a worrying turn.

She has opened up on how she suffered from post-natal depression after giving birth and went through a tough mental health battle whilst filming her hit comedy show

She said: "I was so raw for the first year, it was irrational. I was putting together the first series six months after giving birth and I couldn't think about it. I went on autopilot and waded through my life."

"What drove me bananas was trying to hide it from people. "So the solution was - OK, I'll go write a comedy show."

She also said: "I hadn't got help for the depression during the first series - I just put it on hold. It wasn't until the end of series two that I sorted it out."
