BBC commentator in tears after Gabby Logan's heart-warming gesture to young England fan

BBC Sport commentator Jonathan Pearce was left in tears after presenter Gabby Logan handed a young England fan tickets to the Euro 2022 final.

England booked their place in the final, their first major tournament final since 2009, with a dominant 4-0 hammering of Sweden. As the crowd celebrated the win, Sweet Caroline was blasted through the PA system at the AMEX Stadium.

And eight-year-old Tess was picked up by the cameras dancing wildly in the stands as Sarina Wiegman's side celebrated on the pitch. Tess was then invited onto BBC Breakfast where she spoke to England legend Ian Wright, before appearing again during the broadcaster's coverage of Germany's semi-final win over France.

Logan was presenting the coverage and made a heart-warming gesture to Tess in recognition for capturing the hearts of the nation. She offered the eight-year-old two tickets for the final, which will be held at Wembley on Sunday.

"This Sunday the final is going to be a pretty big deal. I know you would really love to be there watching it, wouldn't you? I'm sure you're going to watch it on TV. How about being in the stadium with us?" Logan said.

Tess was in visible shock at the offer, replying: "That would be great." Logan then added: "Because I've got a couple of tickets and I'd love from the BBC to give them to you. Bring someone along with you, you can decide who it is Tess. Who do you think you've got lined up?"

Tess was clearly overwhelmed at the offer, putting her hands over her head and her mouth as she digested the news. Logan then also offered to get Tess in contact with former England star Alex Scott and the rest of the punditry team.

"You can work it out who to bring. You can bring your mum, your gran, whoever you want it to be. And I'm sure Alex [Scott] and the rest of the team would love to meet you as well if you can pop up to the studio and say hi to us before the match. I think the Lionesses need your support," she said.

After Tess signed off, still in shock, Logan cut back to Pearce for the second-half of the Germany game. But the commentator struggled to contain his emotions after witnessing the surprise invitation.

"I'm crying after that interview there I have to say. I have never cried when you have handed back to me. Oh my God. Lovely, lovely to see her there at Wembley," commentator Pearce said.

Tess will be watching on as England take on fierce rivals Germany at Wembley on Sunday evening. Die Nationalelf booked their place in the final thanks to a 2-1 win over France on Wednesday night.

Alexandra Popp put them ahead with a volley five minutes before half-time, though Kadidiatou Diani scored a fortunate equaliser soon after. She shot from outside of the box, with the ball bouncing off the post and into the net off keeper Merle Frohmns.

Frohmns bounced back from that disappointment to make three vital saves before Popp headed in to winner. It is expected that the final could set a new European Championship attendance record, with Wembley having a capacity of 87,200 for the showpiece event.
