A BBC Radio broadcast was interrupted recently when presenter David Fitzgerald experienced a heart issue. Fitz, who typically hosts the morning programme, was on air for only half an hour before colleague Michael Chequer stepped in to take over.
Chequer informed listeners that Fitz was feeling unwell and had left the studio to undergo medical examination, but assured them that he was fine and would be back on air as soon as possible.
He told listeners: “It is Thursday morning, Michael Chequer in for David Fitzgerald who is feeling a little under the weather. He has left the studio to get himself checked out. He is absolutely fine, we will keep you updated and let you know. He will be back with you ASAP”.
Fitz later took to Facebook to reassure his fans that he was doing okay, sharing a photo of himself from a hospital bed plugged into various feeds, but looking in good spirits. Many fans expressed their well wishes on social media, wishing him a speedy recovery. He wrote: “Just a little heart issue this morning, on the radio."
David Fitzgerald is a well-known presenter who has worked for Sky News and covered major world events, including the arrest of O.J. Simpson, the death of Princess Diana, and the war in Bosnia, among others. He has also written for Spitting Image, won awards for television production, and appeared as a question in Trivial Pursuit, reports Devon Live.
A BBC spokesperson told the Mirror : “Fitz is recovering well at home and is hoping to be back on air soon.”
