BBC Breakfast Viewers Left Scrambling After Sudden Channel Switch

BBC Breakfast viewers were left scratching their heads this weekend after the show faced another unexpected scheduling shake-up, for the second day running.

Saturday’s (April 26) episode already saw a change when Breakfast signed off early to make way for live coverage of Pope Francis’s funeral. As Naga Munchetty told viewers: “Early finish for Breakfast today. The time now is just coming up to half past 8 because next on BBC One there will be, of course, live coverage of the funeral of Pope Francis. That begins at nine o’clock”, reported the Manchester Evening News.

But if fans were hoping for a return to normal service on Sunday, they were out of luck. Today’s (April 27) edition kicked off as usual at 6 am on BBC One, but after just an hour, viewers were told to switch over to BBC Two if they wanted to keep watching.

The sudden move was to make space for Match of the Day, which slotted into BBC One’s schedule, bumping Breakfast off its regular perch.

And the changes didn’t stop there. From 8.30 am, the BBC launched straight into their coverage of the London Marathon, meaning more disruption for viewers hoping for their usual Sunday morning lineup. Gabby Logan is leading the coverage for the 45th edition of the iconic race, with around 50,000 runners expected to take part.

Among the competitors are two dads running in memory of their daughters, tragically killed in last year’s Southport attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event, reports the Express. David Stancombe and Sergio Aguiar are hitting the marathon route to fundraise for projects set up in honour of nine-year-old Alice Aguiar, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and six-year-old Bebe King. Bebe’s parents will also be there, cheering them on from the sidelines.

It’s not just BBC Breakfast that’s been shuffled about either. Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg also found itself pushed onto BBC Two. Laura gave viewers a quick heads-up during a live link with the Breakfast team, reassuring everyone that she was “happy” to be broadcasting on BBC Two for the day, although it’s fair to say some viewers might be getting a bit fed up with all the channel hopping.

With back-to-back changes on both days, it’s been a confusing weekend for anyone trying to catch their usual BBC programming without having to reach for the remote.
