BBC Breakfast viewers divided over Harry Hill's 'bizarre' interview with puppet

BBC Breakfast viewers were left divided after Harry Hill's latest appearance on the programme. The comedian took to the red sofa on Monday (October 24) for a chat with presenter Victoria Fritz.

The 58-year-old discussed his return to stand-up comedy and was joined by a puppet named Gary. The You've Been Framed host admitted: "I am not a trained ventriloquist Victoria but it's been a lot of fun and Gary does some of his jokes [in the stand-up show]."

The former Doctor continued: "I thought I should just be silly, so I am just a bit silly for two hours. Anyone coming to the show and expecting an exposé or an in-depth look at the political scene won't get that I am afraid.

"There is a bit of rolling around on the floor with a long sock on as well as a baby elephant." Harry then compared being a comedian to being an athlete before he joked about his puppet "taking over the business".

At one point Victoria even admitted she found Gary, 'creepy' and was glad it wasn't sat next to her. When she asked Harry about his thoughts on the politicians in the running to become the next prime minister, the comedian told the presenter: "I allocate people into two groups tray-bakes or tears-and-shares."

To which Victoria, lost for words, appeared to have nothing to say except 'ok'. Some viewers were creeped out by Gary and branded the interview a 'car crash,' while others thought it was typical of Harry's comedic style.

Taking to Twitter, @ChattyCathyuk commented: "what the HECK is the interview with Harry Hill - car crash TV," while @ScullyScully73 quipped: "Harry Hill much better on Mute lol."

@CYESFU reckoned: "Harry Hill being a thing in 2022 just feels weird. Presenter made things more awkward but I feel his comedy should have been left behind by now" as @AbladeRay added: "Harry Hill just been on BBC breakfast, anybody else don't find him funny, he laughs at his own jokes probably because no body else finds them funny."

Meanwhile, some people defended Harry. @back_badger said: "Harry Hill is an absurdist comedian with a penchant for the bizarre, so quite what did you expect?" while @rachlove31 observed: "Harry Hill trending for being Harry Hill because some people don’t get Harry Hill is very Harry Hill."

"This was one of the best interviews I have ever seen @HarryHill," tweeted @trinaod, while @AngelosantoK joked: "Harry Hill would have had all this Tory leadership nonsense sorted out in no time: "There's just one way to settle this...."" referring to his TV Burps catchphrase, "There's only one way to find out... Fight!
