BBC Breakfast viewers distracted by Sally Nugent's outfit choice on show

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent is tasked with bringing the nation's biggest stories, but bemused viewers were left distracted by her bizarre attire earlier today.

The host appeared alongside co-presenter Ben Thompson wearing a bright purple suit which she paired with a blue jumper and leopard print heels.

One viewer took to Twitter to comment: "Is Sally Nugent driving a coach later on?#BBCBreakfast."

Another added: "Is she auditioning for a Ribena advert perhaps?"

Alison Cook asked: "#BBCBreakfast did Sally get dressed in the dark this morning?"

A further viewer compared the BBC Breakfast presenter's outfit to Jack Nicholson's infamous Joker suit in the 1989 Batman film.

But despite the colour clash of Sally's clothes and the Beeb's famous red sofa some fans of the show praised her for her outfit.

Another tweeted: "@Sallynugent is rocking the Nana Mouskouri look on #BBCBreakfast this morning."

A fan commented: "Sally Nugent is looking hot this morning."

Although Sally had chosen to go bold with her blazer, her co-host Ben opted for a traditional black suit with a white shirt and red tie to match his poppy.

And it's not the first time fans of the show have questioned female co-stars on their attire.

Last month her BBC colleagues Rachel Burden and Victoria Fritz's outfits on the Sunday edition of BBC's flagship morning show, left viewers complaining about their unusual glam appearance.

Rachel, 47, donned a pine green satin blouse along with dark floral midi skirt, whilst Victoria, 38, opted for a black shoulder-bearing top with dark grey fitted jeans.

Other BBC stars have also prompted comments regarding their 'clubbing' clothing (BBC)

One twitter user wrote: " #BBCBreakfast have the 2 presenters come back straight from clubbing to work this morning? #partyoutfit."
A third added: "All female @BBCBreakfast presenters should have to wear a shirt and tie like the men slaves. #bbcbreakfast."
And a fourth said: "Victoria Fritz seemed to have popped in to present BBC Breakfast on her way back from the ball."

Previously, Conservative MP David Davies criticised the BBC's informally dressed reporters.

"I certainly wouldn't turn up to a broadcaster looking like I have come off a beach," he said.

"T-shirts and jeans would be fine if they were on Blue Peter but these are programmes that pride themselves as the country's top current affairs and news programmes.

"A suit would be more appropriate. I was brought up in the Seventies - but personally I think you have got to dress for the occasion and that means smart clothes for TV."
