BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent makes first TV appearance since 'splitting' from husband

Sally Nugent put her work-face on as she took to the BBC Breakfast sofa following the news that she had split from her husband of over a decade.

The news anchor and her husband, Gavin Hawthorn, have reportedly decided to "amicably" split after they appeared to be "growing apart".

But despite her personal troubles, the broadcaster appeared to be putting on a straight face as she threw herself into work after the news of her marriage breakdown became public.

Sally, 51, was joined on the sofa by her co-anchor, Jon Kay, as she informed viewers on the top stories of the day.

Despite her personal issues, Sally appeared to be in high spirits as she and Jon chatted to co-star Nina Warhurst who recently returned from Liverpool, where she immersed herself in all things Eurovision.

The broadcaster looked sensational as she sat on the sofa, with one social media user branding Sally a "Greg Goddess" due to her wardrobe choices.

Birkenhead-born Sally opted for an all-in-one cream suit which was neatly kept in place by a belt around her waist while her brunette tresses were styled into loose waves resting on her shoulder.

It was reported that the star and Gavin, 52, had been "moving in different directions" prior to their split but decided to keep things under wraps.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: "It's very sad but they are no longer together.

"I think they tried to tough it out for quite a while as they didn't want to split up if they could possibly help it for the sake of their son but they clearly couldn't make a go of it.

"They've both been very guarded about the reasons behind their growing apart but it's been plain for a while that they had been and now it's obvious that they haven't been able to resolve that despite clearly trying for some time."

Gavin is believed to have moved out of their family home in Cheshire, leaving the broadcaster "devastated".

The couple who opted to keep their relationship extremely private share a teenage son, with Sally's BBC Breakfast profile stating he is "football and rugby mad".

Sharing a brief insight into family life, Sally previously told Radio Times that family time could often be "tricky" as she, her now ex-husband and their son struggled to find things to watch together.

She said: "My sofa is in my kitchen diner and there's a giant flat-screen TV on the wall.

"It's tricky to get something that my husband, my 13-year-old son and I want to watch, during lockdown, we all got hooked on Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix, but it'll come as no surprise that I'm a news junkie."

The Mirror previously approached Sally's representatives for comment.
