BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent couldn’t hold back her excitement over the Sports Personality of the Year award – revealing she was staying up far past her bedtime to find out who won.
The 50-year-old reporter is used to veery early starts in order to be on the BBC Breakfast red sofa in time for the 6am air time of the morning news show.
Indeed, some BBC Breakfast stars often declare that they wake up at 3:40am in order to be ready for work before many in the UK are still alseep.
But Sally wasn’t going to miss a moment of the glittering Sports Personality of the Year awards – which saw teenage tennis champion Emma Raducanu, 19, lift the trophy.

Emma made history as she became the first woman to win the award since 2006 – with Zara Phillips being the last female winner of the prestigious gong.
Emma’s win comes after she wowed the sport world in 2021 when she won the US Open and became an instant style icon and darling of the fashion world.
The tennis played beat off stiff competition from Olympic diver Tom Daley and Olympic swimmer – and recent Strictly Come Dancing contestant – Adam Peaty to be crowned the 2021 winner.

Sally was beyond excited to attend the event on Sunday night – and gave herself a glamorous makeover as she prepared to discover who had won.
She shared a snap of herself on social media along with the caption: “Staying up past my bedtime tonight. See our report with all the #spoty winners tomorrow @BBCBreakfast.”
The morning news reported looked stunning in a sleeveless blue dress, a statement watch, some dangling silver earrings.

Followers concurred that Sally looked the business as she shared glamorous shots on both Twitter and Instagram.
One fan gushed: “You look stunning Sally!”
And another made reference to the iconic film Wayne’s World, writing: “In the words of Wayne, SCHWING” alongside a heart eyed emoji.
Accepting her award on Sunday night, Emma said: “To win, it's really pretty amazing for me.
“I am really happy with this. I have always watched Sports Personality of the Year growing up, so I am really humbled to join the amazing past winners.
“I am also very happy for British tennis that we were able to get this award again.

Emma is also the youngest winner of the award since Michael Owen scooped the gong back in 1998 – when he too was a fresh faced 19-year-old.
Meanwhile, runner-up Adam marked the night by sharing snaps of himself on the red carpet of the award, writing: “What an honour to be shortlisted in an incredible year of sport.”
