BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt exasperated after awkward clash between co-stars

BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt was left exasperated after he was left caught in a crossover between his s co-star colleagues during the live show.

The segment occurred during the hand over to BBC Weatherman Matt Taylor as the weather screen showed a picture of a sunrise in East Wales and before the report Naga questioned whether it was a sunrise.

After Matt gave viewers an in-depth look at the weather predictions for the weekend, Naga asked for his insight on a debate.

Naga asked: "Are there any rules which say that it's definitely a sunrise? Could that have been a sunset?"

Matt pointed out some mist in the picture, saying: "The giveaway here is the fact you've got a little bit of shallow fog here."

BBC Breakfast star Naga replied bluntly: "You can get shallow fog at sunset."

He replied: "You can do, you can do. OK, it could be either. But it's definitely a sunrise, I promise you."

Charlie Stayt was seen looking exasperated but the debate wasn't done yet.

She told him: "Yeah I believe it's a sunrise, but it could have been a sunset."

When he admitted: "It could have been," Naga said: "Thank you very much."

The morning weather presenter didn't let it lie though, telling her: "OK. I wouldn't be showing a sunset this time of day though."

Naga still had the final say adding: "Matt, you've said enough, thank you."

In response, Matt let out an awkward laugh and said: Thank you, I’m off.”

Charlie, who co-hosts BBC Breakfast with Naga, told her: "I feel a lot of sympathy for Matt in those circumstances, I do. I really do."

She replied: "What, having to mediate between the many debates?"

He added: "Poor man just wants to get off and do his job."

But despite the on-screen clash with a colleague, Naga took to social media to pay tribute a departing one — Newsnight's Stephen Smith announced his departure she described him as a ‘bloody decent person’.

Naga wrote: “One of the best creative wordsmiths/journalists I've ever had the honour to work with.

“And above all, a bloody decent person. Good luck, Stephen!”
