BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood reveals when she thinks she'll be axed from show

BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood has said it is unlikely she will still be on the show in 10 years, when she reaches 70.

The 60-year-old presenter admitted: “I try not to worry about things I can’t change. I don’t want to go, but one day it’s going to happen.

“Hopefully it will be ‘naturally’ but I also have to acknowledge I’m 60 and am unlikely to be at the BBC when I’m 70, I would have thought.

“It’s the natural course of events... I don’t want to be using a stairlift to get to the studio in the morning. But I love my job.”

Carol also spoke about being newly engaged to her fiance known only as Steve, but added they are not sure when the big day will be. She split from her first husband Jimmy Kirkwood in 2008 after 18 years.

She told the Western Mail: “We’re not galloping towards it. It’s nice, because the first time I got married, I was young, so you’re involved in the wedding almost from the time you get engaged.

“This time it’s nice because there’s no pressure – it’s nice to enjoy it and do it at our own pace.”

She said of Steve: “He’s funny, very kind and caring and romantic.

“I get up at 2.45am, and he’ll make tea and put cereal in a bowl for me to take to work. These small gestures are more important than anything grand, they happen on a daily basis.”
