BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker has announced a move to Channel 5 after six years at the helm of the popular morning show. The long-running presenter has been at the forefront of BBC Breakfast since 2016 but has now taken up the opportunity to move to Channel 5 which has "big ambitions" and "big plans" for their show 5 News.
Some fans have been saddened by the announcement, which was made on social media this afternoon (Monday), while others have congratulated the 45-year-old online. Starting from today, Mr Walker will be presenting for 5 News every day.
He will be filling the shoes of Sian Williams who has just finished her post for the programme. Similarly, she also presented BBC Breakfast before making the change to 5 News.

The full announcement shared by 5 News said: "Hello. Dan Walker here. I have a little bit of news for you. In the next few weeks, I'm going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5 News and to Channel 5.
"I'm really excited, but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast and I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there but Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come around very often and I can't wait."
He added: "I've also had the incredible privilege of working on some iconic programmes, both at the BBC and elsewhere, and what I love about this deal is I not only get to present the news but also host a whole range of new programmes right across the channel.
"And what an hour to step into the shoes of Sian Williams. I know how popular she is with both the team and also the audience, so all I can say is I will do my very best to maintain her incredibly high standards. Thank-you for watching and I'll see you soon on a TV screen somewhere."
