BBC Breakfast live show pulled off-air as building evacuated

BBC Breakfast viewers were confused after the live show was suddenly pulled off air following a fire alarm.

Presenters Roger Johnson and Rachel Burden were in the middle of an interview with Apprentice winner Harpeet when viewers suddenly heard what sounded like a fire alarm. The presenters appeared to be confused about what was happening as the recorded messaged could be heard on the live show: "Attention, attention. Please evacuate the building."

The pair then quickly ended the programme telling viewers they were going to have to leave the Salford studio, sparking concern among those watching. Roger Johnson said: "I think we are going to have to go."

Dozens of people took to social media on Saturday morning to express their confusion. One user said: "What on earth is happening at BBC Studios? Is everything ok? Staff seemed unsure what was happening. Emergency evacuation live on BBC Breakfast." Another wrote: "BBC Breakfast being evacuated from the building while live on air was a strange start to the morning."

A third said: "Never saw people having to be evacuated live on tv before." Another said: Ooo heck! BBC Breakfast has just had to abruptly stop - everyone’s been told to evacuate the building live on air! Hope all’s ok."

It is not yet known exactly what happened within the studio but the programme was replaced with Saturday Kitchen shortly after.
