BBC Breakfast host forced to stop report as unexpected visitor gatecrashes interview

BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt interrupted Mike Bushell's cricket round-up after becoming distracted by an onlooker visible in the backdrop of the sports presenter's report.

Mike was reporting live from Edgbaston, where England are taking on Australia in The Ashes.

His report attracted a surprise guest as Charlie and Naga spotted a bird behind Mike while he attempted to deliver the latest cricket updates.

Interrupting Mike, Charlie said: "Aw, there's a little bird sitting on the fence behind you. He's been listening to your every word, Mike. Can you see? On the fence behind you?"

The sports presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing star turned around to spot the black and white bird on the pitch boundary.

"Got a little friend here, have I?" Mike asked but the friendly creature had moved out of the shot moments before.

"Oh, he's down there. Look!" The sports presenter exclaimed. "I'm trying to work out what bird that is. I'm sure someone can tell us."

Naga and Mike called on viewers to get in touch and identify the gatecrasher.

Answering the presenters' request, one viewer tweeted: "@BBCBreakfast the bird at Edgbaston is a pied wagtail #bbcbreakfast," and another agreed: "@TVNaga01 Definitely a pied wagtail! #BBCBreakfast."

A third added: "Yes, definitely a pied wagtail."

Meanwhile, last week, Naga was caught cheekily kicking her co-host Charlie as she tried to get his attention in an on-air blunder.

During an interview with barrister Victoria Butler-Cole, Naga tried to quietly inform a blissfully unaware Charlie that he was visible on-screen.

The interview began with a split screen zooming in on Naga and the guest but the camera changed to a wide angle in the studio with Charlie looking at the morning papers.

Naga quickly realised Charlie was also visible and gently kicked him but the friendly reminder didn't go unnoticed by viewers.

One viewer tweeted: "@BBCBreakfast presenter #Charlie Stayt gets a gentle kick on the leg as a friendly reminder that he's live on camera from co-host # Naga Munchetty while he's seen reading a newspaper during an interview with an online guest as he's sat in the studio on the #BBCBreakfast sofa!"

"You need to kick him harder @TVNaga01 #BBCBreakfast," another joked.
