BBC Breakfast 'have found' Dan Walker's replacement after presenter's exit for Channel 5

BBC Breakfast looks set to have found a candidate to replace Dan Walker on the popular breakfast show.

Dan will leave the show on Tuesday and swap out Auntie for a new role at Channel 5.

The former star of Strictly Come Dancing now looks set to be replaced by Jon Kay according to reports from the Daily Star.

Jon will most likely step in and replace Dan after he departs this week.

The Daily Star spoke with Alex Apati from betting company Ladbrokes.

Mr Apati said: “It’s looking increasingly likely that BBC chiefs have found Dan Walker’s replacement.

"And he’s no stranger to the Breakfast family, with Jon Kay pulling away from the chasing pack. Gethin Jones was favourite to get the gig once upon a time but has seen his odds drift over the last few days, and it now looks as though it’s Kay’s role if he wants it.”

Other BBC Breakfast stars include Sally Nugent, Nina Warhurst, Carol Kirkwood, Naga Munchetty, and Charlie Stayt. Dan announced his departure from the show earlier this year.

“I’m going to go and do the news on Channel 5,” he told BBC Breakfast viewers. “But also make loads of new really exciting programmes. It’s a fantastic opportunity and new challenges in life are always good. And if you can grab them and do them to the best of your ability, you see what happens next don’t you.”

“I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there,” he added. “But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans. And I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often. And I can’t wait.”
