BBC Breakfast forced off air as alarm sounds

BBC Breakfast was forced off air this morning as the studio was evacuated as an alarm sounded. It happened as Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur was being interviewed by Roger Johnson and Rachel Burden,

Viewers could hear the alarm being sounded during the BBC One programme. The presenters made their apologies and the orange BBC Breakfast screen was shown, CoventryLive reports.

However, it seems not to have affected the Beeb's schedule as Saturday Kitchen Live is going ahead as normal. This is due to the the programme coming from a different set of studios.

Rachel said as the alarm went off: "Ahh so we’ve been disturbed by an alarm which may mean that we have to slow things down for a moment

“I’m so sorry everyone. For the time being we’re going to have to leave the studios. So we’ll see if we can come back before the end of the show."

Roger said: “Thank you, enjoy what you’re doing for the rest of the day. I think we are going to have to go."

Rachel later updated viewers on twitter: "It’s all ok folks - false alarm and yes I did get some cookie pie and get to chat to the fabulous @harpsikaur @BBCBreakfast."

Some people were not happy about the speed of evacuation, PlymouthLive reports. One said: “BBCBreakfast setting a great example of how to act in an alarm. Act first question later!”

A second said: “BBC Breakfast showing a fond disregard for fire evacuation procedures there”
