BBC Breakfast fans slam Naga Munchetty after 'unprofessional' clash with guest

BBC Breakfast fans have slammed Naga Munchetty for an "unprofessional" interview with one of the show's guests.

Naga, 46, was speaking to head teacher Catherine Davies about the use of mobile phones in schools.

Catherine explained that her school's policy is centred around “a trusting relationship with pupils” and not “zero tolerance”.

Naga wanted to know if the pupils' phones were off all day or whether they're able to use them at break time.

The head teacher replied: “No, we don’t expect to see them at break time either. At the end of the school day…”

But Naga jumped in and said: “I’m really interested in your language, Catherine. Sorry to interrupt, but you say you don’t expect to see them.

“You’ve been very careful in terms of saying you don’t want zero tolerance or absolute rules, but it is a rule, isn’t it?"

Catherine explained the school's phone policy again, using the word “expectations”.

However Naga quipped: “Ok, expectations. I might interpret that as rules."

After the awkward exchange several fans took to Twitter criticising the former Strictly Come Dancing star for her approach.

One wrote: “I see the BBC policy of asking questions and interrupting guests / experts after one sentence is being dutifully followed.

“If only guests could interrupt their inquisitors when they pose a question and then spend another 30 seconds adding their own personal views!”

While another said: ”It’s so unprofessional for a tv presenter to have an expert on to talk about something and then proceed to cut in on them when they disagree. Not ok”.

However Naga did have one defender, who tweeted: "“OMG the head teacher talking about 'expectations' rather than rules is so woke and a prime example of what is wrong with the left wing in teaching.

"It is a rule and she does punish pupils who use phones”.

It's not the first time BBC Breakfast has ruffled viewers' feathers.

Viewers were left cringing this week after watching what they branded an "unprofessional" interview with James Blunt.

The 47-year-old You're Beautiful singer popped on the show to promote his upcoming tour.

But fans were mortified when he was asked about plastic surgery and other random topics, prompting some cringeworthy silences.

One viewer fumed: "Breakfast television on BBC should either get moved to CBBies or axed.

"I have never seen anything more unprofessional as the Mr Blunt interview. Naga and Charlie pathetic. It was on par with Dan Walkers out of depth questioning."
